Practice outside of lessons has always formed a key part of learning an instrument.

For so many good reasons.

Practice Matters

-1-

Home practice is key to both a child's progress, but also to their enjoyment and commitment

-2-

When children see progress and improvement in their skills and understanding, they are more likely to try harder and have higher levels of motivation. In our KeyNotes program, we talk to students about challenge levels and ask them to stretch themselves. High levels of motivation will result in their believing in themselves

-3-

Practicing, and experiencing the rewards of it, is a great learning and life skill and one that can be applied to every area, whether it be sport, academics or hobbies

-4-

The group setting gives children an extra motivation to practice as they see their peers doing the same, and mastering the same songs!

Practice Tips

  • Regular time each and every day

  • Sweet spot: are they hungry? Are they tired?

  • Give a timeline - set expectations

  • Structure the practice

  • List tasks and tick off

  • Are they comfortable?

  • Repetitions of short sections rather than playing through the whole piece

Our Practice Videos

We provide practice videos for all KeyNotes learners, in order for you to support your child at home.

The number 1 issue we hear about when it comes to children practicing, is that parents are unsure how to help them. These videos will ensure that you are able to support your child with instructional content, and having access to listening to how they should sound.

How do you access these videos? You need to set up a free account on our website, giving us your teacher's name, and you will receive a log-in. Once you log in, you will find all of the practice videos for every piece in each workbook.
